8 Foot Custom Aquarium
All our standard and special aquarium sizes, including the 8 foot custom aquarium size, now have optimized engineering to determine the minimum thickness required for each individual panel of glass. We don't settle for a one size fits all formula but rather optimize every individual panel in the aquarium based on engineering standards based on your needs.
For example – if you have us modify your 24"H x 72"L x 24"D to a 24"H x 96"L x 24" D aquarium, you don't need thicker side panels, just thicker front, back and bottom panels just because you decided to make the aquarium longer. By comparison, other aquarium manufacturers automatically increase the thickness of every panel of the aquarium just because one panel needs to be thicker, or they skimp on all panels because they don’t want to have to upgrade just some of them. Custom Cages' professional engineers use advanced pressure rating formulas to optimize every individual aquarium to have a minimum safety factor of 2.3 (standard in the industry as a minimum, ours are even stronger because of the aluminum frame system). Some of our aquariums have a safety factor of 3.5. By using this technique, we are able to achieve the highest strength at the lowest cost – so don’t be surprised if our prices and weights are a lot better than other aquariums out there of the same size. Of course, these are minimum standards. You are always free to upgrade any panel for any reason for additional peace of mind.
Our 8 foot custom aquarium comes in various shapes and sizes including:
We can also customize most our standard glass aquariums, including the 8 foot custom aquarium to be made as rimless glass aquariums. The rimless aquarium works great for frag tanks, island tanks, turtle tanks, and more! Custom Cages' classy polished beveled edge and superior craftsmanship make our rimless tanks the premier rimless brand on the market today. Our Majestic® stands come with center supports so even our largest rimless glass aquariums are well supported. We also have our own unique, innovative center concealment column you will not find anywhere else to assist in adding plumbing such as our H2Overflow® and Siphon Stoppers® to make filtration easy for island tanks. We also have a frosted upper rim available if you wish to have rimless glass aquariums that conceal the water line!
Glass vs Acrylic Aquariums
There are advantages and disadvantages to using either glass or acrylic for your 8 foot custom aquarium. The Custom Aquariums team has spent a great deal of time evaluating what type of custom aquariums to use. We have not only immediate considerations of the installation difficulties to consider, but the long term viability of our investment. Once you analyze the difference the choice is quite clear. When it comes down to the decision of glass vs. acrylic aquariums, most often you are sacrificing a long term benefit of glass aquariums in exchange for a short term benefit of acrylic aquariums. Please see our glass vs acrylic page for more information on our evaluation of the glass versus the acrylic aquarium.
