All our standard and special aquarium sizes, including our unique pentagon-shaped aquarium customization, now have optimized engineering to determine the minimum thickness required for each panel of glass. We don’t settle for a one-size-fits-all formula but rather optimize every aquarium panel based on your needs and engineering standards.
For example – if you have us modify your 24“T x 72“L x 24”D to a 24“T x 96“L x 24”D aquarium, you don’t need thicker side panels, just thicker front, back, and bottom panels just because you decided to make the aquarium longer. By comparison, other aquarium manufacturers automatically increase the thickness of every aquarium panel just because one panel needs to be thicker, or they skimp on all panels because they don’t want to upgrade one of them.
Custom Aquariums’ professional engineers use advanced pressure rating formulas to optimize every aquarium to have a minimum safety factor of 2.3 (the minimum standard in the industry, ours are even stronger because of the aluminum frame system). Some of our aquariums have a safety factor of 3.5. Using this technique, we can achieve the highest strength at the lowest cost – so don’t be surprised if our prices and weights are a lot better than other aquariums out there of the same size. Of course, these are minimum standards. You are always free to upgrade any panel for any reason for additional peace of mind for your pentagon-shaped aquarium design.

Rimless Pentagon-Shaped Aquariums
We can also design most of our standard glass aquariums to be rimless glass aquariums, even the pentagon-shaped aquarium! The rimless aquarium works great for frag tanks, island tanks, turtle tanks, and more! Custom Aquariums’ professionally polished beveled edge and superior craftsmanship make our rimless tanks the premier rimless brand on the market today. Our Majestic stands come with center supports, so even our largest rimless glass aquariums are well supported. We also have our own unique, innovative center concealment column to assist in adding plumbing, such as our H2Overflow and Siphon Stoppers to make filtration easy for island tanks.
Glass vs Acrylic Aquariums
There are advantages and disadvantages to using either glass or acrylic for your pentagon-shaped aquarium! The Custom Aquariums team has spent a lot of time evaluating what type of custom aquariums to use. We have immediate considerations of the installation difficulties and the long-term viability of our investment to consider. Once you analyze the difference, the choice is quite clear. When it comes down to the decision of glass vs. acrylic aquariums, most often, you are sacrificing the long-term benefit of glass aquariums in exchange for the short-term use of acrylic aquariums. Please see our glass vs. acrylic page for more information on our evaluation of the glass versus the acrylic pentagon-shaped aquarium.
